This cultivar of the Field Maple has very similar qualities to the Field Maple but has more of a crown uniformity to it. Known as the Elsrijk this tree comes from the Netherlands and was selected in 1953 from a number of similar urban trees.

The Elsrijk holds a very uniformed tree shape. This oval shape suits urban areas very well with very little growth outwards which can often cause problems with any hanging wires and no low hanging branches causing problems to pedestrians.

When mature this tree reaches a medium to large size, not reaching any more than 15m. During the spring and summer the Maple can be seen with short twiggy branches with a deep green foliage. This will turn to a bright golden yellow colour come autumn.

Acer campestre ‘Elsrijk’ performs at best in very rich and well drained soils and is very tough in the way it can tolerate drought and air pollution. Perfect for any urban areas.
