The natural habitat of the Acer monspessulanum is the Mediterranean. It is a small tree, often described as a large shrub and usually presents with multiple stems.
A bushy, rounded small tree, growing to heights of 8m. This tree has beautiful leathery, glossy, dark-green leaves and produces profuse yellow-green flowers in pendent racemes that appear towards the end of April alongside the new leaf, these spring flowers are then followed by red-winged fruit in summer.
This is a slow growing tree. It is hardy and very drought tolerant. However, Acer monspessulanum is sensitive to salty conditions so not suitable near roadsides.
