The Princeton Sentry or better known as the Maidenhair Tree is very similar to the Ginkgo biloba but is a more upright variant of the tree. These specimens tend to have longer and straighter branches giving it a beautiful upright look. This variant was grown by Princeton Nursery in New Jersey which is where it gets its name.
In the Maidenhair’s early stages, the stem will grow straight in a very uniform shape. This will be seen with its branches which point slightly upwards giving the tree its pyramidal shape. Fan shape foliage can be seen on the tree as well as short flower buds. During the summer months there is deep green foliage which then turns to a golden yellow come Autumn. Thanks to its very uniform shape and lack of fruit, it is very suitable for small gardens and for urban use.
This tree performs well drained soil. Will tolerate all soil types and can withstand pollution and wind. Grows best with ample sunlight.
