This is a favourite here on the nursery due to the spectacular display of spring flowers which are small and yellow in colour, followed in late spring by lantern shaped pods containing seeds.. Many will know this tree as Pride of India or Golden Rain Tree and was introduced to England from China in 1763.
This tree holds a beautiful form and is mid-sized. With large pinnate leaves which transform throughout the seasons from pink during its spring unfurling before greening through the growing season and go to a burnt orange colour during Autumn.
Whilst exotic in appearance Koelreuteria paniculata has proven to be very hardy, surviving long periods of below freezing temperatures on our nursery. It grows best on dry, alkaline soil and enjoys a sunny spot. When mature the tree stands at around 4-6m tall with an appealing rounded canopy. Does not require a lot of maintenance. Fully Hardy
Koelreuteria paniculata received the Royal Horticultural Society's Perfect for Pollinators badge.
Some images included in this listing are an example of how the tree will look at maturity – not the tree you will receive. Tree size as per listing description.
