The Magnolia campbellii 'Lamellan Pink', commonly known as the Lamellan Pink Magnolia, is an exquisite flowering tree that captivates with its stunning pink blossoms. This deciduous tree is renowned for its dramatic, cup-shaped flowers that emerge in late winter to early spring, often before the foliage appears. The flowers are typically a soft, blush pink on the outside and a slightly lighter shade within, creating a striking contrast against the bare branches.
At maturity, the Lamellan Pink Magnolia reaches an impressive height of approximately 15-20 meters, with a spread of about 10-15 meters. Its grand stature makes it an excellent focal point in larger gardens or park settings. The tree's leaves are large, ovate, and dark green, providing a lush canopy during the growing season. The bark is smooth and grey, adding an element of interest even in the dormant months.
This magnolia prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. It thrives best in full sun to partial shade, making it versatile for various garden settings. While it can tolerate some shade, full sun exposure will encourage the most prolific flowering. Notably, the Lamellan Pink Magnolia is relatively low-maintenance once established, but it does benefit from protection against harsh winds and late frosts, which can damage the early blooms. Its elegant beauty and robust nature make it a cherished addition to any landscape.
