Prunus armeniaca 'Bredase', commonly referred to as the apricot tree, is cherished for its deliciously sweet fruits and appealing appearance. This deciduous tree sheds its leaves in autumn, paving the way for new growth each spring. It is renowned for its early spring blooms, typically pinkish-white, which create a stunning display before the foliage appears. The 'Bredase' apricot tree generally reaches a mature height of around 5 to 6 meters and spreads approximately 4 to 5 meters. Its rounded canopy offers a pleasant, symmetrical silhouette in garden landscapes.
The 'Bredase' variety is notable for producing medium to large apricots with a rich, sweet flavor, usually maturing in late summer. These fruits are perfect for fresh consumption, preserving, or baking. The tree features smooth, reddish-brown bark, which adds visual interest during the winter months. Its ovate leaves have a serrated margin and turn a vibrant yellow before falling in autumn. While 'Bredase' is capable of self-pollination, planting it alongside another apricot variety can enhance fruit production.
The Prunus armeniaca 'Bredase' flourishes in well-drained, sandy or loamy soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. It prefers a sunny location, as full sun is crucial for optimal fruit development. Although it can tolerate partial shade, reduced sunlight may lead to a diminished fruit yield. Regular watering is essential, particularly during dry spells, but it's important to avoid waterlogging, which can damage the roots.
