PRUNUS domestica 'Czar' / Plum
Prunus d. 'The Czar', commonly known as the Czar Plum, is a delightful addition to any garden, offering both aesthetic appeal and delicious fruit. In spring, this variety showcases a breathtaking array of white blossoms that not only enhance the landscape but also attract bees and other pollinators, which are crucial for its fruiting process. By late summer, the tree produces medium-sized, dark purple plums characterized by a rich, tart flavour, making them perfect for fresh eating or for use in jams and jellies.
Reaching a mature height of approximately 3.5 to 4.5 meters, with a spread of about 3 to 4 meters, 'The Czar' is well-suited for smaller gardens or as part of a larger orchard. Its upright growth habit and rounded canopy provide a lovely structure throughout the year, adding to the garden's charm. This deciduous tree is known for its hardiness and adaptability, thriving in a variety of conditions, although it prefers well-drained loamy or sandy soils and struggles in waterlogged areas.
For optimal growth and fruit production, 'The Czar' plum tree requires full sun, ideally receiving at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. While it can tolerate light shade, reduced sunlight may limit its flowering and fruiting potential. Overall, the Czar Plum tree is a wonderful choice for gardeners seeking a combination of ornamental beauty and fruitful harvests, making it a cherished element in any landscape.
