Quercus turneri 'Pseudoturneri', commonly known as Turner's Oak, is a striking and resilient hybrid tree that combines the best characteristics of both its parent species, Quercus robur (English Oak) and Quercus ilex (Holm Oak). This semi-evergreen tree is renowned for its attractive, leathery leaves which are dark green and glossy on the surface, with a slightly paler underside. These leaves persist on the tree for much of the year, providing a verdant display even in the colder months, though it may shed some leaves in particularly harsh winters.
Mature Turner's Oak typically reaches a height of about 10 to 15 meters, with a spread of 8 to 12 meters, making it a moderately sized tree suitable for parks, large gardens, and urban landscapes. It has a broad, rounded crown that offers substantial shade and is supported by a sturdy trunk with rugged, fissured bark, adding to its visual appeal and structural integrity.
Turner's Oak is notably adaptable and can thrive in a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and sand, provided the soil is well-drained. It prefers full sun to partial shade, making it a versatile choice for different planting locations. This tree is also relatively tolerant of pollution and wind, making it an excellent option for city environments and exposed sites. Its resilience and aesthetic qualities make Turner's Oak a favoured choice for those looking to combine beauty and durability in their landscape
