Robinia pseudoacacia 'Frisia', commonly known as the Golden Robinia or False Acacia, is a striking deciduous tree renowned for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage. This ornamental tree can reach a mature height of approximately 10-15 meters and has a spread of 5-8 meters, making it a medium-sized tree suitable for various landscape applications. The 'Frisia' variety is particularly valued for its brilliant leaf colour, which remains vivid throughout the growing season, adding a splash of colour to gardens and parks.
One of the key features of Robinia pseudoacacia 'Frisia' is its pinnate leaves, which consist of numerous small leaflets that create a delicate and feathery appearance. In late spring to early summer, the tree produces clusters of fragrant, white or pale pink flowers that are attractive to bees and other pollinators. These flowers give way to long, flat seed pods that persist into the winter months, providing additional visual interest.
Robinia pseudoacacia 'Frisia' is relatively adaptable to different soil types, thriving best in well-drained soils. It can tolerate a range of soil conditions, including poor, sandy, or clay soils, but it performs best in moderately fertile soil. The tree prefers full sun to partial shade, with full sun ensuring the best leaf colour. It is also known for its resilience and can withstand urban pollution, making it an excellent choice for city environments. However, it can be susceptible to certain pests and diseases, so proper care and maintenance are essential to keep it healthy and thriving.
