Robinia × margaretta 'Georgia da Torino,' commonly known as the 'Georgia da Torino' locust, is a striking ornamental tree that belongs to the Fabaceae family. This hybrid variety is celebrated for its elegant, feathery foliage and stunning clusters of fragrant, pea-like flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. The flowers, typically a delicate shade of white or pink, attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it a delightful addition to any garden or landscape.
At maturity, 'Georgia da Torino' can reach a height of approximately 10 to 15 meters with a spread of 7 to 10 meters. Its growth habit is upright with an open, airy canopy, providing a dappled shade beneath. The compound leaves, which consist of numerous small leaflets, create a fine-textured appearance that adds a touch of grace to the tree's overall form. In the fall, the leaves turn a vibrant yellow, adding seasonal interest to the garden.
Robinia × margaretta 'Georgia da Torino' is adaptable to a variety of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils, provided they are well-drained. This tree thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade, although flowering may be less prolific in shadier spots. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established, making it a suitable choice for low-maintenance landscapes. Additionally, 'Georgia da Torino' locust is known for its resilience against pests and diseases, making it a robust and reliable addition to any landscape design.
